Policies, Terms and Conditions
It is your responsibility to check your booking confirmation carefully as soon as you receive it and contact us immediately if any information on the confirmation appears to be incorrect or incomplete as it may not be possible to make changes later. Please review your confirmation information carefully.
Date change policy: You may rescheduled for a different date or tour up to 7 days prior to the trip for an additional 15% processing fee, subject to availability. Any subsequent rescheduling will also be subject to this fee.
Guests under 18 years of age MUST have a parent or legal guardian sign their release forms. If you need this paperwork sent to you ahead of time, please contact our office.
Lost or Stolen Items: Santa Barbara Adventure Company/Channel Islands Adventure Company is not responsible for items that are lost or stolen on your trip. Please make sure you have all your personal items with you at the end of your trip. Thank you.
Please note your own Client Responsibilities: All clients will be required to follow the safety policies and procedures of Santa Barbara Adventure Company/Channel Islands Adventure Company and its guides and all clients will be required to sign a Participant Assumption of Risks, Acknowledgment of Inherent Risks and Indemnity Agreement in favor of Santa Barbara Adventure Company/Channel Islands Adventure Company upon their arrival. Our staff will give instructions before each trip and it is important that you listen and do as they say. You will assume the responsibility for many decisions affecting your safety during this trip. These activities can be physically demanding with inherent elements of risk and danger beyond our control. We do not assume liability for personal injury or death. We offer trips requiring various degrees of fitness. We are not qualified to evaluate your fitness as appropriate for any given trip. If you are overweight or in poor physical condition or have other health concerns, you should consult your physician before the trip.

Meeting Spot: Santa Barbara Harbor
Guide gratuity: Our guides do their best to ensure you have a great time. It is customary, but always optional, to tip your guide if you had a positive experience. Guide gratuity is not included in your reservation fee and should be paid directly to your guide (10-15% is standard). Please note that guiding staff & boat staff for this trip are separate companies and play separate roles in ensuring you have a safe & fun day on the water, please keep this in mind when tipping your sea cave kayak guide and/or boat staff.
From the South: Take Hwy 101 north of Montecito to the Garden Exit. Turn left at the stop light. Follow Garden to Cabrillo Blvd (on the water font). Turn Right on to Cabrillo Blvd (follow approximately 1 mile) past Stearn's Wharf to Harbor Way. Turn left into the Harbor. Then turn immediately Left to enter the harbor parking area, at the kiosk; Follow the signs to boat launch area. We will meet you at the “Sea Landing Building” at the end of the Harbor. Parking is $2.00 per hour, maximum $12.00 per car. Charter boat phone 805-962-1127.
From the North: Take Hwy 101 South. As you enter the Santa Barbara area, take Castillo Exit. Turn right at the end of the off ramp. Follow Castillo Street towards the beach. Turn right onto Cabrillo Blvd. Follow Cabrillo Blvd (approximately .5 miles) to Harbor Way intersection. Turn left into at Harbor Way. Turn left again, enter the harbor at the kiosk. In the harbor, go back towards the pier. Follow the signs to boat launch area. We will meet you at the “Sea Landing Building” at the end of the Harbor. Parking is $2.00 per hour, maximum $12 per car. What to Wear: You will be traveling all day on a Charter Boat. The weather can be clear to windy or overcast all in the same day. Please dress in layers, wearing synthetic clothing (avoid cotton if possible) and bring a windbreaker for the boat ride back. Bring a change of clothes for the boat ride back, there are hot showers on board. Pack your gear in day pack or duffle bag.
SBACo will provide: paddle jackets, life jackets, wet suits and helmet as necessary for current conditions. We will bring snorkel masks (but no fins). To ensure proper equipment. please provide your heights and weights. Please let us know if anyone in your group is over 230 pounds. Thank you.
All though we offer dry bags to help keep gear dry, everything that comes on the kayaking trip runs the risk of getting wet. We therefore recommend that you only bring personal gear that can get wet or damp during the trip.
What you will need:
-Swim suit or swim trunks.
-Small towel or beach towel.
-Durable wet shoes such as "Tevas" or "Aqua Socks" or an old pair of tennies (not flip-flops). Bring a shoe that can stay on your foot as you walk on deck or possibly in surf or rocky beaches.
-Sun Screen (SPF 30 or higher).
-A hat with a brim.
-Sunglasses with a neck strap such as "Chums" or “Croakies”. Your glasses may get lost without a neck strap.
-1-quart (or greater) water bottle.
-Synthetic sweatshirt or layers as well as a wind breaker for the boat ride out.
-Waterproof camera (optional)
-Polypropylene/ "Capaline" or lycra rash guard or other synthetic clothing (layering).
-Paddling gloves (optional)
-If you are prone to sea sickness bring a low drowsiness medication, sea bands or other anti-seasickness medications. SBACo can not administer any medications.
-Fins are not provided for snorkeling but guests can bring their own.
-Alcohol is not served on the boat but guests over 21 years old are welcome to bring their own to enjoy on the trip.
The Channel Islands National Park is a remote location and there are no medical services on the islands. Please bring any medications you may need and plan accordingly.
Charter Boat Cancellation Policy: The charter boat company, Truth Aquatics, requires a minimum of 12 passengers on any charter to the Channel Islands. If less than 12 passengers total are booked on this charter, they reserve the right to cancel. Should this happen Santa Barbara Adventure Company will contact you the week of the trip to reschedule or issue a full refund.
Weather: Entering Painted Cave is subject to weather conditions. In the unlikely event that we cannot anchor by Painted Cave due to weather, we will anchor at another beautiful location on Western Santa Cruz Island with opportunities for sea cave kayaking and snorkeling.
Refund policy for Painted Cave Kayaking Trips: SBACo pays out considerable costs prior to the start of this trip. A full refund, minus a $35 per person processing fee, is available up to 14 days prior to the trip. No refund will be granted for a cancellation within 14 days of the trip or program. SBACo reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or adjust the trip due to dangerous weather conditions.
